Owing to southern and western demand Treasury Wyman issued a notice allowing payment in silver certificates equal to the value of deposited gold coins of $500 or more upon receipt of the original certificate from the New York assistant treasurer. Certificates may be forwarded by express at the depositor’s expense or issued in exchange for gold by any assistant treasurer.
