Douglas Ga August 20 William McLeod confessed to Sheriff Ricketson that he murdered Mattie Graham a wealthy young woman near her home in Hakeshoro Coffee county. He said he would rather see her dead than married to another and described attacking her in her field then finishing the throat wound at the branch near the house stamping her in the face before dining at home. He claimed motive was her plan to marry Byrd Mabley and showed no remorse, fearing lynch mobs.

George L. Bell Named Judge of Atlanta Circuit Superior Court
George L Bell a prominent Atlanta lawyer and former assistant United States attorney for the northern district of Georgia was today appointed by Governor Brown to a new superior court seat in the Atlanta circuit. Self defense urged as Bain trial ends with not guilty verdict
After a day and a half of testimony and argument, jurors found Jon M. Bain not guilty of murder in the third floor Prudential Building killing of F. G. Williams on June 29. The defense argued self defense. Williams' good character evidence was rejected. Bain testified he drank after the tragedy.
