Amendments Planned in Taxes Bill Face House Vote
Washington August 18 Many amendments to the Republican tax bill will be offered by the Ways and Means Committee and over a hundred others will be considered before the bill is taken up in the house for final passage. One change eliminates the ten dollar annual license tax on soft drink vendors in favor of a 12 1/2 percent tax on net profits over thresholds. Other plans propose 15 percent on excess over 40 000, exemptions for civil and Spanish American war veterans allowances, and exemptions for foreign trade firms deriving half their income from outside the US. The bill also targets tooth paste manufacturers and aims at foreign corporations with 50 percent foreign income.
