Freight agents from Louisville & Nashville gathered at the Piedmont Hotel in Atlanta to socialize and plan improvements after the new freight depot opened. A vast blaze swept fifty acres of Old Orchard Beach destroying the Hotel Fiske worth 60,000, the Emergon at 75,000, the Alberta and Aldine hotels, plus fifty cottages. Fire departments from Old Orchard, Portland, Biddeford and Saco assisted, but the Olympia Hotel and other structures were gutted. The cause is linked to a lamp incident in the Olympia, with the blaze spreading rapidly along the shore.
A severe thunderstorm hit Idlewild, the McAllister summer home near College Park, striking the north side of the house. Six people inside were thrown to the floor. two seriously hurt, including Mrs Wesley whose nerves were shattered. Mr Fields and Mr Wesley were unconscious for a time, with Mrs Wesley gravely damaged and the home itself badly damaged.

Mrs. Alice Longworth slipped during a park excursion with Congressman Longworth and Mrs. Roosevelt. She fell into a large clay pit filled with soft red clay while the party toured Yellowstone Park. Witnesses include Booth of Spearfish and D. Booth, superintendent at Pecora Hatchery, describing the incident and reactions.
