Mrs. M. E. Gass assistant postmaster of White Pine Tenn walked in her sleep from home and was struck by a fast passenger train near the station. Fragments of her body were found along seven miles of track and identified by her clothing.

Senator M. Hayward, visiting Brownville Nebraska for the Woodmen's picnic, suffered apoplexy during his speech. He collapsed on the platform, received emergency care for three hours, and was moved to a nearby residence in precarious condition. his wife and son were summoned as doctors monitor his recovery.
In Hobson City Alabama residents vote to incorporate as the nations only exclusive Black town. All 400 inhabitants are Black and the election shows unanimous support for self government with Black officials to be chosen within days. The move follows community insistence on governing themselves without outside influence amid Oxford neighbors wary of disorder.

Savannah Ga August 15 The steamer City of Augusta sailing from New York Saturday was due Monday night but has not arrived. The Decatur H Miller from Baltimore is also a day overdue. A little uneasiness is felt for both vessels.
Lillian Clay Jewett says she will travel south to campaign against lynching in Georgia and elsewhere after bringing the Baker family north. She plans to deliver addresses starting in Georgia and spoke with Robert McGraw, a young Black man who recently escaped a Cedartown mob.
In the heart of the lynching district McGraw described the Sam Hose lynching and Miss Jewett’s account. The Post visited the Baker family on Sawyer street with Miss Jewett. Mrs. Baker stated she is happy where she is and has no desire to return south.
August 5 Des Moines IA crowds pack two meetings to hear W J Bryan and General Weaver denounce imperialism, defend anti trust positions, and contrast republic and empire. Bryan claims a republic needs 25 000 troops for 70 million while empire requires four times that, with 1 500 000 a day to maintain troops in the Philippines.
Chattanooga council moves to regulate electrical line by requiring 15 days of instruction from expert motormen, declares certain franchise provisions forfeited, and passes first reading of an ordinance granting a rival railroad a parallel route into a key suburb. Labor unions hail the action as a victory.
Colonel M N Thompson, secretary of the Huntsville chamber of commerce, reports New England textile firms are scouting southern sites for relocation due to non profitable northern operations. Several mills already sent representatives and Merrimack mills of Lowell have opted to locate in Huntsville, signaling a shift of textile manufacturing southward with four major mills planning visits in thirty days.
