Council aims to abolish detective chief position
Councilman Walter Sims proposes an ordinance to dissolve the detective department and chief of detectives, merging plainclothes officers into a unified 21 officer uniformed force under Chief James Le Beavers. The plan, urged by the council's banco investigative committee, was adopted with no opposition, though police board members later rejected it by eight to five. If affirmed, the change would remove the first assistant chief role and give Beavers broader control over personnel and efficiency.
