Jodie Hamilton, a noted Athens painter, died about 1 o clock after consuming nearly a half pint of chemically pure alcohol. He was painting interiors on the University of Georgia campus, where the alcohol had been left in Terrell hall laboratory. He did not intend self harm, but was ignorant of the dangers.

Walter E Hawes Drowns Saving Woman at St Simon's
Walter E Hawes and Miss Emma Adele Winch of Atlanta were swept from shore while swimming at St Simon's early Wednesday. Hawes, 19, attempted to reach Miss Winch and drowned. she survived after rescue, suffering shock. Hawes lived at 165 Crumley Street with his mother and stepfather J Rose. He worked in T. & Lewis offices and was active in Baptist Tabernacle youth work. Body recovered Wednesday afternoon and to be brought to Atlanta for funeral. He leaves two sisters and several aunts and uncles.
