White Whitney Bout Fails Lee Stops Kid Young

Chicago fighter Chanay White failed to land his famed punch against Frank Wiltney at the Armory, losing by a two point margin as the bout ended in the tenth round. Charley Lee scored a clean victory over Kid Young in the semi windup while other preliminaries saw Mike Saul floored and defeated after a late stoppage.

Further Extensions Planned for Parcel Post System

Washington reports continued consideration of parcel post reforms by the post office department and Postmaster General Burleson in daily talks with a senior departmental committee. The department announces new verifications for increased weight and reduced postage take effect Friday, while specifics of additional reforms remain undisclosed. Dayton to be ruled by business manager

Dayton Ohio August 13 incomplete returns today from yesterday's election show that the new charter providing for a business manager of the city and a commission form of government was adopted by a vote of approximately two to one.

White Sox Buy Baron Battery From Birmingham Team

Birmingham Alabama August 13. The star Birmingham battery Prough and Mayer has been secured by the Chicago American club under an optional agreement. Walter Mayer the young Baron catcher was secured for 1500. Mayer has starred with Birmingham and hits .271 with strong fielding. Prough leads the league in wins and low era. It is unsure if players will move at season end or in spring.

Fire consumes armory staffroom near Taft Hall

Early Wednesday a fire broke out in the armory staffroom above Taft Hall in the Auditorium causing several thousand dollars in damage to the building and contents. Sergeant Wardarll of the artillery corps discovered the blaze in the basement and firemen contained it after a lengthy blaze with smoke pouring from windows.

Inland Waterway Plan Seeks $20 Million for Boston to Beaufort

Washington report outlines Congressional support for inland waterway between Boston Massachusetts and Beaufort. Proposal calls for a 12 foot canal with later upgrade to a canal 25 feet wide, sea level depth, and 80 feet bottom width. Federal purchase of the Chesapeake and Delaware canal is urged at about $2.5 million with expansion to sea level. total cost figures include maintenance and cars.

Rural Credits To Be Provided In Coming Banking Reform

President Wilson told the democratic caucus that rural credits will not be added to the currency bill now, but a complete rural credit system will be provided after a government commission reports next winter. A Mitchell Palmer noted the plan aims to persuade insurgent Democrats to back the agriculture credit proposal.

Claim Agents to Meet at Tybee August Twenty One Twenty Two

W O Wall secretary of the Southeastern Claim Agents association calls for a Tybee island meeting on August 21 22. The second annual gathering will bring together about 260 claim agents from Macon to Shreveport La railroad companies.

Hart Named Georgia State Tax Commissioner

Judge Hart agrees to accept governor Slaton’s appointment as state tax commissioner. The position, created to oversee equitable tax valuation, pays 2500 annually with clerical staff and a stenographer. Hart will work with the comptroller general to adjust county digests and ensure uniform taxation across Georgia.
