London August 13 Lord Salisbury gravely indisposed with critical condition after months of illness. Physicians report no immediate danger though exhaustion and intestinal paresis have troubled him for years. He was abroad last winter and recently began a notable project on chemical electrical science.
Sharleston August 13 Special Last night Miss Malone married Charles Calhoun Tslee at o'clock Two hours later the bride died in the arms of her grief stricken husband The couple had been engaged for months Miss Malone an invalid suffering from consumption Recently she improved and Wednesday night Mr Tylee and her help decided to wed The ceremony was by Rev A E Cornish In St John Homestead A brief reception followed at the bride's aunt's home Then they moved to the groom's prepared home on Nassau street As they crossed the threshold the bride fainted blood streaming From her mouth She died within an hour Both were well known and popular in the city.
A 12 year old Cuban boy, Joseph Vega, was rescued near Georgia after drifting 190 miles from Havana in an open boat. He and two companions fled warnings, two swam to shore while one stayed onboard until rescue by the Eldorado. The mother, hospitalized since August 1, learned of the boy safe return.
Gertrude Ryan aged 10 died in Rochester on August 13 after a fright in a country visit scene. She saw a team in a yard and fainted, later dying. Autopsy found inflamed brain and heart membranes and stomach contents undigested.

A powder keg at the North Alabama Coal and Iron mine entrance in Coal City near Birmingham exploded during testing. Miner Austin Davis and two others were killed or fatally burned, while Sam Scroggins August Scroggins John Dickens John Kitchens and Dickens were brought to St Vincent's hospital severely burned. Davis reportedly poured damp powder on a lamp then tested another dry keg triggering the blast. Five men nearby were injured.
