Strong Tax Equalization Measure Passes Senate 29 to 12
The Miller Anderson substitute to the Sheppard tax equalization bill, creating a state tax commissioner and county boards of tax assessors, passed the Georgia Senate 29 to 12 after a four hour debate. Supporters hailed the vote as a major step, while opponents warned the house must act. The measure promises to bring over 1.6 million dollars into the state treasury, may lower the state millage, and aims to unearth unreturned and inequitable property across roughly 37 million acres statewide. The bill now heads to the House for consideration.

Governor Sulzer Impeached Over Campaign Funds Misuse
Albany August 12 The Frawley committee report charging Governor Sulzer with diverting campaign contributions to his own use and with perjury was adopted by the legislature early today. A resolution to impeach him for willful and corrupt conduct in office and for high crimes and misdemeanors passed the Assembly by 64 to 36. Perjury is charged as the committee accuses him of falsifying accounts, obstructing investigations, and approving bills to aid his primary measure. Contempt findings target Sarecky and Colwell for refusing to answer questions. The chamber overflowed with a crowd as action moved toward immediate impeachment.
