British Steamer Canastota Reported Missing Near Glasgow

Tax Committee Agrees Major Extents of Tax Revisions

Washington August 10 More extensive changes in tax levies than at the White House conference were tentatively voted by the Ways and Means Committee. Proposals include higher excess profits tax from 1921, corporate rate to 15 percent, repeal of transportation taxes in 1922, raised exemptions for heads of families, and new taxes on fountain syrups, grape juice, carbonated drinks, and other items with various manufacturer or excise levies. Net effect expected to reduce total yearly tax by about 385 million, with corporate receipts up 45 million.
