Senate Marks Time Over Appropriations and Tax Protest
The Senate spent most of yesterday in marking time while the House debated the appropriations bill prepared by the two committees. The bill would fund state educational institutions and faces a lengthy fight, with University of Georgia and Georgia Tech seeking increased funds. A municipal court bill for Augusta is also set for passage, despite opposition and a decisive vote to bring it up again. Separately, a protest against the tax law was entered into the Senate journal by 26 senators, arguing the tax equalization burden is unfair and uneven across counties and classes of property.
