Contemplated Budget Cuts Hint at Revenue Shifts
The committee weighed total fiscal year cuts of about 579 million dollars, aiming for a 9.905 billion dollar total excluding postal costs. Proposed reductions included 75 million for the army and 67 million for the navy, with other trims and tax changes offsetting by revenue gains. The net revenue loss could reach 458 million if repeals on excess profits and higher surtaxes are moved to next January 1, possibly 180 million if deadlines are deferred, as committee members expect action by mid next week.
