Trains Collision Kills Four in Dalton Head-On Crash
Four dead and three seriously injured in a head-on crash between local No. 49 and an extra northbound W.&A. freight one mile north of Dalton Georgia around 5 pm. Engineer J. L. Heggie and fireman John Roach died. J. B. Killebrew and others injured. Suddeth, an Atlanta resident, escaped after warning the engineer. The wreck scene was described with mangled remains and torch-lit recovery efforts.

Nine-year-old Anetta Carson dies from kerosene blaze
Anetta Carson, nine, daughter of James Carson Southern agent of Singer Sewing Machine, died at 10 tonight from burns after a boy threw kerosene on a fire in a cabin near the Carson summer home Meridian Mississippi. Her two young brothers were badly burned but expected to recover. The family had recently moved from New Orleans.

Brakeman Severely Hurt as Engine Passes In Bronx Yard
Charles Shudley a brakeman on the New York New Haven and Hartford railroad was pinned beneath a locomotive in the Bronx yards and had a leg amputated before he could be freed. An ambulance surgeon performed the operation without anesthesia, and Shudley aided during the procedure. He may recover.

Raleigh Hook and Ladder Sets World Record in Firemen’s Meet
At the Interstate Firemen’s Tournament in Wilmington the W. R. Womble Hose and Ladder Co. of Raleigh lowered the world record by two fifths of a second for 300 yards on a regulation track. They added a 30 foot adder and a man up top, returning the ladder to the track in forty two seconds, after previously setting the record at Asheville last year.

Georgia roads to be linked in new Georgia and Florida system
Augusta Ga August 8 The directors and stockholders of several lines including Augusta and Florida Railway Millen and Southwestern Railroad Atlantic and Gulf Short Line Nashville and Sparkes and Valdosta Southern met in the offices of W H Barrett to authorize conveyances to the Georgia and Florida Railway company for the separate lines. The Augusta Construction company will meet tomorrow to negotiate with contractors to connect and revise the lines. Meetings continued late into the night with each group adjourned and others entering sessions to finalize the consolidation. The construction board will continue work tomorrow on the project.

Roanoke Man Kills Wife then Commits Suicide
In Roanoke Virginia on August by Wingfield aged 95 shot and killed his wife 25 then killed himself near their home in Wing field. A note dated today said another man invaded their home as motive. After quarrel they moved to the dining room where two shots were fired through the wife, then he placed her body on a bed and severed his own jugular. The couple, recent arrivals from Hagerstown Maryland, had worked on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad as a brakeman prior to the tragedy.
