They plan reduced rates for commissioners exhibitors and free passage for the government exhibit with freight cuts. visitors would face higher costs. The New York commission and railroads back increased South American attendance. J M Colesiton Co line suggests backing the effort. Colonel Avery heads home tonight via Baltimore and Washington.
Fire at Cincinnati and Memphis wharf boats destroys the steamers Big Sandy and Carrollton and Louisville mail line boats. Five injured including Superintendent Shaw and Fireman Kibby. Losses total about 60 000 on Bandy 10 000 on cargo 40 000 on Carrollton and 32 000 on wharf boats. Berlin Maryland suffers major blaze destroying most of town and stock with 200 000 total loss.
Ed Green and Mrs. Fannie Carson face preliminary trial for killing J. O. Carson. Green admitted involvement and offered cash to Poole to fake an alibi. Mrs. Carson admitted inviting Green to the house. she struck with a hammer while Green held the victim’s head for the razor attack. The motive was to remove the husband after months of planning. Dispatch from Hong Kong reports Chinese mob at Whasang near Kucheng set fires to missionary houses, killing eight women a child and a husband. Several Christians wounded, two probably fatally, with bodies due in Foochow tomorrow. Chinese troops dispatched as British and American consuls plan talks with the viceroy about the outrage.

A voluntary wage advance for light goods took effect today across Woolen Manufacturers Club mills in Olneyville and Central Falls. The weaving schedules show about a 7 percent increase, with variations by mill and job type to maintain fair wages amid the recent great strike.
At Port Royal Dock Washington on August 5 the United States largest dry dock is prepared for its first test on August 15 with the monitor Amphitrite. In Lexington Kentucky William Newton Lane fired fatal shots at Versailles Woodford hotel killing James Rodenbaugh and mortally wounding his father H C Rodenbaugh proprietor. Lane a drunk from Lexington argued over a hotel bill. after blows and gunfire Lane shot Rodenbaugh, then killed the elder Rodenbaugh as he opened the door. Lane was arrested at the scene. The elder Rodenbaugh had been a first lieutenant in the Ninth Kentucky cavalry.
Richard Suter a brother of attorney Hon. BR. Lee Suter killed Harry Kelley in Frankfort Kentucky following a quarrel with Kelley who had attacked William Willis a day earlier. Kelley confronted Suter and Suter fired three shots wounding Kelley in the abdomen and killing him almost instantly. Suter was arrested and placed in bail.
At Paducah Will Sims and Lucy Perry lovers quarreled at noon. Sims attempted to leave when Perry drew a pistol, killed him instantly, kissed the corpse, then shot herself in the head, dying. In Mount Sterling Henry Reynolds, seventeen, was shot and killed by farmer John Hawkins after Hawkins learned of Reynolds’s alleged relationship with his wife. Hawkins faces possible lynching.
In Louisiana near Baton Rouge two O Neals are killed by Hill Picou and Wallace Picou after a quarrel at a church service. Albert O Neal and Henry O Neal are shot. Picous and a friend are jailed. A separate feud leaves Weaver dead and McGrew wounded days later.
George Hale and Ben Brock, two Princess Anne county farmers, quarreled at Jones's store near Virginia Beach. Brock left, then returned by buggy with a pistol, shooting Hale twice and fatally assaulting him. Hale died at St. Vincent's hospital. Brock faces strong local outrage.
Washington I T August 5 another link in the famous train robbery of last year has been uncovered James Dyer a well to do farmer and stockman moving on the Verdigris river near Wagoner was arrested by Deputy U S Marshal William Smith charged with implication in the Blackstone robbery last winter and taken to Fort Smith Tom Root one of the gang turned state evidence implicating Dyer and others whose names were not given but well known citizens and one or two U S deputy marshals were said to be involved There were eleven in the gang and Rast’s confession will head up the arrest of the whole gang Deputy Marshal Smith had worked on this case for three months and will be entitled to the full reward some 000
Detective Geyer of Philadelphia seeks details from Quinlan about a heavy wooden box four and a half feet long shipped in November 1894 from Chicago to Tilton New Hampshire. The box may contain remains of Holmes's victims. police dig at the castle paused and no new evidence surfaced today.
W. H. T. Durant faces murder charges in the Lamont case as the trial resumes in San Francisco. He is taken from the county jail to the courtroom by buggy, and as talesmen are called, a flood of excuses prevents juror addition before the noon recess.

Pigeons returning with messages noted gale winds at 12 000 feet Camp of the Clouds and that Bosworth persisted toward the crater for a photographer Lineln to compare summit photos with last season.
