Stormy Session in Georgia House Over Prohibition Bills
A heated Georgia House session erupted Monday as temperance leaders fought to force a report on a prohibition bill. Debate blocked passage of the general appropriation bill and rail projects, with Judge Hopkins proposing a report on whisky shipment proof. The tussle drew in Speaker Burwell, leaders from Burke and Fulton, and ended with adjournment as Andrews retained the floor to press for action on the temperance measures.

Georgia Auto Tax Law Fallout Ushers Supreme Court Case
The Georgia Supreme Court case challenges Judge Charlton’s ruling that the state auto license tax is unconstitutional. If the high court upholds the ruling or extends it, Georgia loses power to require car identification and policing on highways. The Jones bill, deemed constitutional by attorneys and Secretary of State Phil Cook, could shield the state from adverse rulings and preserve road funding. The case hinges on whether the state can enforce vehicle identification and policing without the current law. The decision may be handed within two weeks from now.
