A local advertises a Monday sale on 12-inch leather bags with brass clasps leather-lined interiors and long straps. Also offered are Salome purses in black and colored leather with German silver finish and long handles priced under 50 cents. Linen lawns include 36-inch linen lawn at 25 cents per yard and all linen lawn at 35 cents per yard.
Second floor display features over a hundred Summer Suits and Dresses at 5.98, reduced from 10.00 to 15.00. Coat Suits in all-linen fabrics with hipless coats, in white and popular colors, English reps. One-Piece Princess Dresses in white and colored linens, reps, and fancy muslins in new designs. All sizes available though not in every style. Early attendance advised.

A mob of about a hundred Tennessean mountain men armed with Winchesters attempted to lynch James White in Middlesboro after a reported assault on Mosie Woodward, a nine year old girl. The mob traveled to Pineville and then learned the prisoner had been moved to Barbourville by Sheriff R. W. Johnson, returning to Middlesboro disappointed.
London reports an American navy officer at Fort Orohsa has developed an electric device claimed to project a powerful energy column through the air. The weapon, described as US property with guarded details, could disable engines of war at hundreds of yards, alarming foreign powers and prompting defensive concerns.

Savannah July 31. Tom Lavinghouse an 18 year old colored boy is held at the Savannah Bohee station awaiting trial for trying to wreck a Central of Georgia passenger train from Macon to Atlanta. A large wooden beam set across the rails with bricks was used. He says he acted under threat from white men who forced him.
