In Des Moines two men raided a couple’s room, dragged them from bed, strangled the husband, and burned him in a tree. Mrs Jefferson tried to alarm neighbors but was threatened with hanging. The killers may be related to the murdered man’s family, including his son and son-in-law who confessed the deed. Also notes Moses Fraley, a grain speculator, failed for a large sum, with rumors of seven million bushels of wheat and corn involvement.
