George Baker paid the supreme penalty for his part in the murder of J. W. Mullon Walker county sheriff. The condemned youth faced the death trap with calm self possession as deputies adjusted the noose. A crowd gathered outside the jail to witness the hanging and to give aid for a funeral fund.
A Northwestern University freshman Louis Aubers is dead and four others injured after an all night search party to find a kidnapped sophomore led to a two car collision. Ralph Willtung of Kentucky and James Leahy were involved as the accident occurred near Wilmette. The incident echoes a prior 1921 disappearance of Leighton Mount.
Secretary of Labor Davis defended his new immigration policy before the Americas Republican club in Pittsburg. He argued that prosperity cannot be insured by importing workers to industry for a few months only to cast them into unemployment when the boom ends. He warned against the belief that Europe is a reservoir of cheap labor and noted that those ideas delay American prosperity. Continued on Page 7, Column 3.
Five separate bomb blasts in the Ruhr overnight tore up tracks and damaged telegraph and telephone lines delaying rail and troop movements. French sources said damage was the worst since occupation began and that attempts to breach German customs barriers were repelled, with vast merchandise seized.
Louisville Ga April 2 Special The T B Kellay Timber Co operates a planing mill in Louisville and other towns. Recent fires at their lumber yards usually occur on Sundays when mills are unmanned. Several hundred thousand feet of lumber were destroyed, costing thousands of dollars in losses.
