In Constantople a alliance of moslem church and Young Turks pushes for abdication of Abdul Hamid. A council of senators and deputies plans to seek a canonical rescript from the Sheik-ul-Islam to declare the sultan incapable. A political feud sparked a shooting in Meadville Mississippi after an election. Cornelius Pritchard died and three others were wounded as Dr A M Newman and supporters clashed with the Pritchard faction. Ingraham Pritchard aided his brother while three Newman allies responded. Applewhite and Thornton were among the injured.
Perry Branch of Chula in Tife county, aged years old and a member of a longtime local family, died this morning by blowing out his brains with a shotgun. His mind had been unbalanced for years and he had twice been sent to the asylum.
San Francisco April 26 witness James L. Gallagher admitted his sworn innocence statements were false. Gallagher described a plot to remove District Attorney Langdon, replace him with Abe Ruef, and discussed aiding Ruef using his office as acting mayor. Heney grilled him to show fear of indictment and investigation.
A tornado near Centradoru, Oklahoma, destroyed much of the town. Sixteen people were injured including a dying child of Rev. E Matthews and his four other children. Lee Grist suffered a broken collarbone. Twelve buildings including three churches were wrecked. Many residents left homeless after the storm and follow up rain and hail damaged more structures.
Des Moines April 26 federal officials and reporters witnessed PB C Maybray order a surgical procedure to strip a scar from the abdomen connected to the McCann murder. Authorities doubt Lilian Gates charges while Gates says Leonard, a McCann associate, identified a body near a pond and then disappeared. An effort will be made to locate him.
The Mississippi Supreme Court ruled that the state railroad commission lacks jurisdiction to stop trains at railroad crossings. The decision states the commission is vested only with powers granted by the state legislature, and its order affecting Gulf and Ship Inland Railroad was improper.
Forty four counties have been carried by the prohibitionists and six more are to vote this week. Jackson and White counties voted dry today with margins of 570 unofficial and 1,499 respectively, closing taverns in Jackson and White. Delaware and Tippecanoe counties spark heated campaigns around Muncie and Lafayette, home to Perdue University, with strong dry and wet efforts. Voters face decisive days as temperance forces mobilize, business slows, and campaigns run hard across the state.

Meran Austria April 27 Heinrich Conrad former director of the Metropolitan Opera House in New York has died this morning after suffering an apoplectic stroke several days earlier.
A late dispatch from Jackson Mississippi reports former Governor Lowry near death in New Orleans after a relapse. Dr John H Noble, his family physician, says survival seems unlikely for many hours. Noble headed to New Orleans tonight with Lowry’s wish to return to Mississippi before death, though circumstances remain dire.
The Memorial Day parade through Atlanta drew thick crowds along Peachtree Whitehall and Hunter streets as veterans, many frail, marched slowly in tribute to the departed. Marchers were joined by numerous wagons carrying those unable to walk, while hotel windows and Capitol dome spectators filled views. The procession opened with mounted police and General Gordon's monument crowd at the capitol grounds, as a large, colorful display reflected Dixie pride and spring warmth.
Bailey argues the tax hits those with limited means while the well off escape, calling the proposal a transfer of wealth from one man to another. He insists consumption taxes should be based on actual means rather than desired spending.

Washington April 26 Senator Bailey of Texas denounced the principle of a protective tariff as unfair and in favor of an income tax. The Democratic side heard a lengthy address as both floor and galleries were crowded and Mrs Taft sat in the president's gallery.
