Railway Notes Commission Meets Today on Switching Fees

The state railroad commission holds its regular monthly session to decide on extending the switching charge limits. Debates center on raising the trackage limit to five miles while keeping the two mile, $3.00 switching fee. Railroads oppose the change, asserting no condition justifies it and that shippers do not want it. The commission will also hear Haylow county depot petition and review a Southern folder on Resorts of the South. Fast fruit line service from Charleston to western points is planned for May with rapid transit times to Atlanta, Nashville, Louisville, Cincinnati, St Louis, and Chicago. Prominent railroad officials and agents were in attendance, with several preparing defense for the anticipated decision. The West Point route interchange mileage books go on sale tomorrow, usable across many southeastern lines. A memory volume for L. S. Brown Jr. was issued to Atlanta railroad men, and the Order of Railway Conductors plans a large May picnic at Holly Springs.
