Rochester N Y April 1 Democrat James Heyens defeated Republican W Aldridge in Monroe County with about 5800 votes shift. Heyens carries thirty second district amid strong climate for reform while Aldridge faced flags over a $1000 insurance fee and party boss issues.
Georgia senators defend the federal inquiry into the New York cotton pool as a judicial matter, rejecting interference. Mrs. Scott announced she will not seek reelection due to the sacrifices of duties.

Cincinnati dispatch reports arrangements for Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft to attend the Ohio Valley Exposition in Cincinnati this fall. Taft has accepted. Roosevelt is being invited through Lincolnh Alter, with possible visit contingent on prior engagements. The event marks 100 years of navigation on the Ohio River.
At a joint board of education and bond commission meeting, a plan to place a white school in Chastain Town with 26000 set for building and 15000 of a 69009 appropriation for Ansley Park as nucleus for another school. A seven story Hunter and Hunter Department Store on Woodward Avenue in Detroit suffered a 400000 dollar fire. The blaze started on the lower floors and raced upward in about an hour. Stock and building damage were extensive with water damage to neighboring Traver Bird store estimated at 50000 dollars. A wind driven shower of sparks threatened adjacent structures but no further fires were reported. Suspected faulty electrical wiring is mentioned as a possible cause.
