Prominent Women Involved In Case At Center Of Smuggling Probe

New York April The assailing syndicate that offered Collector Loeb 199000 to drop the government probe into Leeper trunks smuggling including 65000 worth of Paris gowns today raised the bid to 260000 as a bribe. Bainbridge died by his own hand amid scandal while Loeb said offers have been refused. No Unwritten Law in Case of Capt Haine

Flashing N Y April. The unwritten law will not figure in the trial of Captain Peter C Haine US Army for the murder of William Annis at Bayside Yacht Club last August. John D McIntyre chief counsel for the defense said in open court that they would not appeal to unwritten law and would press insanity defense. District Attorney DeWitt announced three aliens hired to oppose insanity testimony. The session closed with two jurors in the box and two more to be chosen. Jurors named August Gundling and George H Highs.
