BY HIS OWN HAND TURNER DODGED THE GALLOWS IN GEORGIA

Special to The Constitution describes Tobs Turner who faced execution for the 1891 killing of Captain J B Shuttles in Greenville. He committed suicide in his Grantville jail cell shortly before his scheduled hanging, bringing a dramatic end to a much noted Georgia crime case.
