Disappearance of Mrs Dewey in Birmingham
The April 15, 1888 Birmingham special reports the mysterious disappearance of Mrs Anns E Dewey and her six year old daughter Katie from the city. Dewey, a former chorus member with Lawrence & Vaughn, stayed with a private family for two weeks after most of the troupe left. She sent $25 to her Omaha parents but the registered letter was unclaimed. She spoke of a hard life and at one point said she wished she were dead, raising suspicion of self harm. The couple Mrs and Mrs S L Farley, formerly in Memphis, are her parents. The note mentions her stage name Rosaling Chiklis. The report also covers the Montgomery explosion and a wide list of ads and notices in Atlanta.
