Central Railroad to Extend Columbus and Greenville Line
It is announced that the Central railroad will extend its Columbus and Greenville line from Siloamville in Meriwether County to Newnan, about 18 miles, with gauge broadening to connect Atlanta and West Point at Newnan and Chattanooga via Cedartown and Rome. The extension shortens Atlanta-Columbus distance to 107 miles, enabling through trains and boosting western Georgia development. Engineers are in the field. construction will take about a year.
