DAR State Conference Opens in Marietta Georgia
By Josephine Earnest Purac the Georgia division Daughters of the American Revolution are in session in Marietta for the annual state conference preceding the national society in Washington. Mrs John M Graham state regent opened the meeting last night producing Rev John N Patten for the opening prayer. The audience joined in singing America Miss Towers regent Fielding Lewis chapter welcomed visiting delegates for the hostess chapter and Governor Brown welcomed the guests Mr John H Boston spoke for the city.

Secretary of the Treasury MacVeagh plans to seek congress approval to shrink U S paper money by about one third to 2 by 6 inches and cut designs from 19 to 9 for notes and certificates. He says saving over 600000 annually is possible though legislative action is needed for national bank note changes.

Reduction in Garrison for the Panama Canal
Washington April 9 A large reduction in the garrison for the Panama Canal is shown in revised construction estimates submitted to the War Department. The estimates request 3 587 500 dollars for permanent housing and support facilities. The plan originally called for four infantry regiments, one cavalry regiment, and artillery units, but was revised to infantry regiments and a smaller contingent.
Lewis testifies he mortgaged home to fund Lewis enterprises
In St Louis on the stand today Lewis testified he mortgaged his University City home for 335000 and turned the funds to the reorganization committee to help investors. He said he carried 450000 life insurance and drew 57000 in 1911, turning it over to the committee. He admitted borrowing 2000 from four men and going to California to divert attention from his enterprises.
