A special committee reached an agreement to abolish the current city engineer and public works commissioner roles and create a single superintendent of construction to be elected by the general council in 1910 with a salary of 5000 per year. The report follows the Clayton Collier dispute and consolidates duties under one official overseeing streets sewers and prisons.
In Lyons New York April Mire ssormim Alyn Sampson the young woman on trial for her life was acquitted shortly after 10 o'clock tonight. She smiled as she greeted her supporters and lawyers and held an impromptu reception in the court. District Attorney Gilbert said he had done his full duty by the people and the prisoner. The jury asked to see the lower floor plan and the shirts used by the gun experts before delivering its verdict.
London in April reports Algernon Charles Swinburne the poet and computer aged 72 contracted pneumonia after a long 6 mile birthday walk last Monday. The Swinburne household including Theodore Sater Danton faced influenza. Swinburne fell ill and pneumonia followed. Watts-Dupton recovering. Swinburne a bachelor resided at the Pines Putney.
