Income Tax Bill Proposes 1 Percent on Excess Over 4000
Congress today introduced a democratic tariff revision bill with an income tax section. It would levy 1 percent on earnings above 4000 for residents, with higher surcharges on larger incomes up to 4 percent on excess over 100000. It also re-enacts a 1 percent corporation tax and taxes abroad earnings, aiming to raise about 100 million dollars annually to offset tariff deficits. Tax base includes wages, salaries, profits, interest, dividends, and property income with specified deductions and exemptions. The plan collects at the source and exempts presidential, judicial, and state official compensations.
