The administration declares Great Britain must honor the Monroe Doctrine in disputes with Venezuela and Nicaragua. It warns that any violation will trigger extreme steps to uphold the policy, with public support expected across American nations.
April 7 Lite Rock Arkansas. Governor James P Clark and Representative W R Jones of Mason county clashed in Gleasons hotel lobby. Jones spat at Clark, Clark drew a pistol but was restrained by bystanders. Clark arrested and released on own recognizance. He will plead guilty tomorrow in justice court to assault.
A large building housing Clark and Wheelers electrical works near the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western railroad was destroyed by fire with over 306000 dollars in motors and dynamos lost, plus about 30000 dollars in machinery. The brick structure measuring 2 by 19 feet burned to the ground, total losses around 110000 dollars with 38000 dollars insured. Cause of the blaze is unknown. In Columbia South Carolina the Phoenix hotel and the Hapitat church at Bishopville were burned after sparks from the hotel ignited the church, resulting in about 10000 dollars in losses.
Thirty thousand dollars was awarded by the jury in United States circuit court yesterday to Charles Heathorne who sued the Baltimore and Ohio railroad for the loss of both legs and the crushing of an arm in a collision in Indiana. The railroad company will appeal. A tornado destroyed a church and several buildings in Winnsborough near Sulphur Springs Texas injuring several and killing one.

Professor C B Cory of Chicago, connected with Field Columbian Museum, hunted south of Palm Beach Florida when a panther leaped and mauled him as an assistant fired to save him. Cory escaped with scratches after a bullet halted the panther. He plans a further expedition south to seek a legendary monster panther accompanied by Mrs Cory.
Weavers at the Atlantic mills in Olneyville voted to strike for restoration of pre cut wage scales. The 2,400 workers, dispersed across cotton wool and mix goods, faced possible shutdowns by mill owners. The strike will proceed after district textile union approval next Tuesday.
Wilder Scott killed his wife at the entrance of a Christian church in Wichita Kansas at noon then shot himself. Both died instantly. He was 21 and she 19. The tragedy occurred as worshipers left the church witnessed by many. The couple had married two years earlier and she had left him due to his dissipated habits. Scott had recently shown a desire to reform and attended services today. After the dismissal he urged her to return to him but she refused, and he shot her then killed himself.
In LaPorte Indiana April 7 Henry Fahrenheim returned home intoxicated and assaulted his wife. Her father Jacob Ott intervened and struck Fahrenheim with a powerful fist blow, killing him instantly. Ott surrendered to the police.
In Columbia April 7 Judge W C Benet urged banning sale or manufacture of two foot or shorter pistols to curb concealed weapons. He also proposed drawing juries by township lines to diversify from neighbors. A Georgia railroad accident killed J Ratteree's daughter near Harmony station in York County. Potteries in East Liverpool shut down, laying off about three hundred workers due to overproduction.
Brit Glenn known as Hid Charley ran amuck in Jacksonville early today. Police officer Edward Minor and Napolean Stucks were killed and two other officers along with two bystanders wounded. Glenn hid in a barn where Lt Jim Minor and Police Officer Ed Minor killed him in a siege that left one bootblack wounded. Authorities moved Glenn to safety in Ancient City as mobs gathered.
Mobile April 7 special from Hay Minette Baldwin and Escambia counties had terrorized the region for months. A midnight gunfight with the fugitive known as Railroad Bill ended when Officer James Stewart was shot through the heart as the posse closed in near Bay Minette. Sheriff McMillan arrived with bloodhounds but rain hindered the chase.
Four white youths Lawrence Reynolds J F Preston Bud Preacher and Sid Preacher returning from a hunt in Houston were angered by jeers from a Black crowd and fired Winchesters. Two Black men and a woman were seriously hurt. no whites injured. Suspects held for coroner investigation.
Nashville April 7. The penitentiary committee seeks M. L. McDowell, a former penitentiary commissioner who resigned after disclosures of a land purchase syndicate profit share. McDowell has fled to Alabama, and officials believe his testimony could implicate others in the scheme.
Paris Texas April 7 Special Squire Blayton jailed by U S Deputy Marshal Browne He is wanted by federal authorities in Georgia for illicit distilling assault murder and other offenses alleged in Murray county He was in hiding when captured and will be taken to Atlanta with Jim Parsons and Tobe Smith within a day or two.
Florence April 7 James Foster constable at Rodgersville near Florence was shot and killed at midnight by Will Brown a negro as he and three officers came to arrest him for larceny Foster died instantly as Brown fled crowds scour the area seeking the killer intense local excitement in Rodgersville where Foster was popular The other item reports a US dredge boat burned on the Coosa river near Bock's Island the crew saved damages estimated at 5000 dollars
A wealthy Chicago woman, Mrs Widder, visiting Clearwater, dislocates her left ankle and fractures a leg bone after tripping on a road while attempting to kill a mosquito. The incident occurred while she was in the area for wintering.
