A Madison county farmer, while working in a chestnut log, pried open a den containing a 4 foot rattler with 13 rattles and 14 young snakes. He killed the old and all the young snakes. three hours later his dogs died from venom exposure.
The Banner slates editor laments Gov Gordon’s past campaign gags and alliances. It argues Gordon’s attacks on supporters and his policy stance threaten unity among farmers and allies, warning of political consequences if he wins re election.
Georgia Alliance leader Col Beck announces an Augusta capitalist willing to loan cotton on a six percent annual rate, enabling farmers to store and borrow against their crop to force prices up. The move seeks to free farmers from speculative pressure, urging storing cotton and using funds to meet debts. Local notes include hires, court sentences, and community updates from Athens and Calhoun.
The court levied $200 and costs against Dr. R P Sorrells Mr W J Smith Dr E R Kinnebrew and Dr E S Lyndon as a liquor ordinance test case. Kansas City report states Henry C. Wilson of 2037 East 18th Street was indicted for a scheme to abduct wealthy children for ransom. The plan used the Dunlap widow's coachman as an accomplice and targeted her 3 year old son, then a 4 year old, with police alerted after the coachman confessed. Wilson was arrested near Mrs. Dunlap's home pending indictment.
In Georgia on September 12 a heated dispute between Gordon and Livingston flared up as Gordon attacked Livingston and Alliance leader Macune with harsh words. He called Livingston a “mass of putrefaction” and warned of further attacks. Col. Peek of the Alliance Exchange promised a reply tomorrow at 12 o clock. The Governor is slated to speak in Decatur tomorrow.
In Buckmar Post Office area, Will George was shot in the neck and died, Henry Burch wounded after a raid on Burch's watermelon patch. Other parties fled as officers pursue suspects. A separate Tulsa-area report notes youths planning robberies and a gun accident injuring several men.
