First Cotton Bale Shipped To Athens From Jasper County
The first bale of this year's cotton crop shipped to Athens arrived yesterday from Shady Dale in Jasper County. Weighing 453 pounds and graded strict low middling, the bale was sold for sixteen cents a pound to F. Marshall Bulley and Son. The shipment was via Central of Georgia Railway, carried by Hodge Mercantile Company.

Mr A W Rhorer, who has run the Lyric theatre in Athens for eighteen months, has sold his theatre and will return to Atlanta to resume the legal profession. Roosevelt Delivers Osawatomie Battlefield Dedication Oration
At Osawatomie Kansas August 31 1903 Theodore Roosevelt dedicated the battlefield as a state park in a ceremony attended by Governor Stubbs and other dignitaries. The event retraced the 1856 battle led by John Brown with 41 Kansans defeating about 400 Missourians. The John Brown monument inscriptions and several survivors were highlighted during the dedication.
