A local advertisement touts a Broad street showplace offering china porcelain glassware and art novelties. It highlights house furnishing goods tinware granite iron ware woodenware kitchen conveniences and a range of silver plated and steel cutlery including carvers and bread knives.
Atlanta dispatch notes Dr. H H Carlton plans a bill to cut the contract rate from 8 to 7 percent, aligning commercial and state rates and backed by Clarke county business leaders. Representative Ellis of Bibb introduces a memorial for the late Alex S Erwin with a committee to draft resolutions.
Athenians welcome Dr. W C Mattox a prominent Elberton dentist to locate in Athens. He will practice dentistry here and join local church, Mason and Knights of Pythias. Also mentioned is Joseph Stockford from Hodgdon Maine cured after seventeen years with DeWitts Witch Hazel Salve.
The Atlanta crowd greets Brumby Day, with five thousand visitors overnight and about twenty five thousand by noon. Georgia’s leaders including Senators Bacon and Clay attend and praise the young hero as crowds weather a perfect day.
A burial association has been formed by Athens Manufacturing Company workers to pay funeral costs for deceased members. Members pay 25 cents within 15 days after an order, funds go to the beneficiary. Officers include President T. C. Gore and Secretary E. L. Jackson. directors list eleven names. Eligible members range from age one to seventy five in good health. The note adds an endorsement of DeWitt's Little Early Risers by Farmer's Bank President King.
Governor Candler’s lengthy message to the legislature covers crime and mob violence, calls for tax bill attention, proposes changes to voter ballot laws, and suggests military pay adjustments from private to field officer levels. He also endorses retiring General Kell and recommends a Bureau of Labor Statistics. The report notes state institutions’ good condition and the University’s prosperity.
About 40 delegates gather for a two day session of the Librarian’s association led by Miss Anne Wallace of Atlanta. Prof Barrow to deliver welcome with Chancellor Hill absent and many club women invited to participate. Library extension topics and public attendance noted. Mrs John Saye died yesterday morning at eight after several months of illness. Her death ends a long illness and leaves a husband and several children, including Policeman Alex Saye, in mourning. The obituary notes she was beloved by friends and survived by family. An unrelated advertisement for Kodol Dyspepsia Cure appears in the text.
