John T. Lyon of Abbeville county, who killed D L Mabrey last May, died in jail today as the trial court awaited session. Lyon, 62, native of the state, was Mabrey’s wife’s stepfather. Mabrey, 26, was shot at Mabrey’s near the town academy after Mabrey refused to fight. Lyon shot again, then told Mabrey’s wife of the death. Motive remains undisclosed.
Montreal report details August Archambult of Coaticooke near Montreal who appeared dead from typhoid fever. His coffin was lowered for burial when a groan from inside startled mourners. The coffin was opened and Archambult, though weak, survived. doctors say full recovery may follow.
Albert Helt of Moberly Missouri traveling to Seattle loses 200 dollars to three monte men aboard a morning Wabash train from St Louis. A passenger feigning officer arrests one suspect, the others flee. Helt pursues with a revolver, recaptures the man at Randolph Missouri, who leaps off as the train moves.
