Agnes Young about twenty, a blonde from Indiana, attempted suicide at Seaboard depot by drinking two ounces of laudanum. Passersby notified a doctor, she was taken to police headquarters, and after a prolonged effort the physician saved her life. She gave no motive beyond despondency and planned to return home.
Carl Rous Thompson of Atlanta son of the late J Ross Crane died yesterday at five am. A UGA graduate and famed student orator, he taught before practicing law in Atlanta. Frank Hope aged 59, once imprisoned forty years, pleaded guilty to swindling and received a ten year sentence. His real name is said to be Puncheon with London relatives. Released last August after a spell in prison, he was free two weeks before reoffending by advertising for a traveling companion for children and robbing applicants.
Whitfield county voters rejected bar rooms by a large margin in Dalton with about 1 600 votes cast. The result ends whisky sales plans for some time as all districts opposed the measure and local ladies held a prayer meeting near the polls.

Atlanta October 5 The board of arbitrators completed the tax valuation for the Central of Georgia Railway. Tangible property 13244070 franchise 3230423 total 16454392. The award reduced the tangible property assessment by 1219678 but sustained the franchise assessment, yielding an increase of 402586 over the companys 1904 return. The award aligns with other state railroad valuations, though the commissioner opposes the physical property finding.

Coroner Weath erly held an inquest into the death of Ed Thomas, a black convict shot by Guard Green at the Athens convict camp. The jury exonerated the guard, deeming his actions justified. Two misdemeanor convicts escaped, not three, and Ed Thomas had been in the gang for two years after stealing guns from Athens Hardware Company. The body was given to relatives for burial. authorities pursue the escapees.
William Randolph Hearst was named as a candidate for mayor at a municipal ownership mass meeting in Grand Pointed by J. G. Phelps who presided and will select the remainder of the ticket. Resolutions denouncing both old parties as dominated by trusts were adopted with cheering after Rev Dr Parkhurst praised government intervention to curb monopolies. Hearst was greeted with enthusiasm and denounced the Republican and Democratic leaders.
N C Dougherty long time Peoria city superintendent of schools and prominent educator is under arrest after a grand jury indictment for forgery. The panel, in session, reports a school board books shortage of 75000 with indications of long term speculation. The arrest followed a 3000 bond bid and deputy sheriff action on the street.
