Nature proclaims Royal Baking Powder absolutely pure and trusted by housewives. The text asserts that its grape extract base yields superior flavor and wholesome baked goods, highlighting confidence and consistent quality in domestic use.
The Georgia Democratic Executive Committee met in Atlanta to resolve the Gober Morris contest for the Blue Ridge circuit judgeship. After hearings on alleged fraud in Fannin and Gilmer counties, a decision declared Judge Gober the nominee with a 68 vote majority even if those counties are excluded. A proposed referral to a fresh vote by the people failed 20 to 14.
Athens welcomed a large group of Knights of Pythias from across Northeast Georgia for the district's inaugural convention. Officers were elected, meetings planned quarterly with Elberton as next host, and an evening of public exercises featured remarks by Col. Kuses G. Michael and a reception at the Athenaeum club.
Carlton Beusse signs with an Anniston Alabama baseball club in the Uistate league and will join the team in Anniston Sunday. League members include Knoxville Chattanooga Adsheville and Decatur. London May 5 A dispatch from St Petersburg reports a rumor of a second battle at Kiulien Cheng with Russian losses seven thousand and Japanese ten thousand and a Japanese retreat. Rumors of naval engagements near Vladivostok Kamimura squadrons and Port Arthur bombardments surface with no confirmation yet.
Citizens complain automobilists drive in the track risking frightened horses and near runaways. They urge motorists to keep to the right side of the street to prevent danger and calm horse drawn carriages.
R A Collins of 531 College avenue recounts a personal cure using Dean's Kidney Pills. He describes irregular secretions and back pain, then notes relief after one day and lasting improvement with regular secretions. Pills sold by Foster Milburn Co and at FT. R. Palmer & Sons store for 50 cents.
Ed Bailey known as Dig Dock swore warrants before Judge Foster charging Dean and Henry Culp with riot after a Saturday night scrap at Katres and Petropol store. The cases set for hearing in Justice Court Monday at four o'clock.
The railroad commission will hear complaints from Athens merchants about freight rate differences to G and S railroad points and South Georgia on May 16. Merchants should submit papers to Capt. J A McMahan, Chamber of Commerce committee chair, to strengthen the case. Druggists endorse Kodol Dyspepsia Cure for indigestion and stomach disorders, noting it digests food and supports renewed health and vitality.
An alarm from bar 25 near the Seaboard depot at 8 PM reports a fire in Sam Johnson's two room dwelling on Cleveland avenue. The fire, already extensive by the time responders arrived, was fed by a weak water supply and total loss is estimated at $300. A large crowd gathered, mistaking the site for the Union Manufacturing plant or Seaboard Air Line warehouse.
Mrs. Rosa England O'Farrell, wife of Charles J. O'Farrell, died at her Atlanta home after pneumonia. A longtime resident, she planned to return to Athens, leaving behind husband, four sons and a daughter. Funeral arrangements to be announced. she was a Methodist and respected by family and friends. The obituary notes her prior marriage and family ties.
