Tragic Shotgun Accident Kills Youth on River Near City
Maud Kenney a sixteen to eighteen year old Black youth died when a shotgun discharged while he and two white boys Claud Jordan and Thomas Christian fished on a pond above Mitchells Bridge power plant three miles from the city. The gun fired as it was being positioned, the load struck his side and he fell into the river with his body later unrecovered. He was stepson of George Few of the Bogart road area.

Hale Funeral Today Honors Athens Leader
Robert L. Hale, a popular Athens citizen and former Standard Oil agent, died at St Marys Hospital after a ten day pneumonia battle. He leaves a widow and three children and was a member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 4 PM today at First Baptist with pallbearers named. friends meet at Dorsey and Funkenstein at 3 PM.
