News reached Athens yesterday of the sudden death of Mr. Vv. R. D. Mason, father of W. B. Mason of Bernstein Brothers establishment. Formerly of Mason's Mill in Madison county, he was well known and respected in Lavonia where he collapsed at home about 6 o'clock yesterday evening.

Councilman Adolphus H Richards Buried After Fatal Wounding
Adolphus H Richards died Wednesday morning at St Marys hospital from wounds inflicted by his son in law John H Potter Jr in the Richards home yard on Oconee street. The council member from the first ward had faced days of struggle and gave an ante mortem statement detailing the Monday morning incident after a quarrel over his daughter. Potter claimed self defense saying he fired to protect himself and his wife. Five hundred homing pigeons released in Augusta on June 17 arrived in Baltimore the same day, setting a possible new distance record in a 600 bird release. The fastest bird covered over 600 miles by rail in 12 hours 24 minutes, averaging about 50 miles an hour, with others arriving within thirteen hours. Pigeon fanciers in Baltimore fund this yearly event, wagering large sums and cups on the results. The Augusta flight reportedly surpasses prior records and even some official government flights used for wireless service.
