Charlton addresses University of Georgia seniors on character and environment

Judge Walter G. Charlton of Savannah delivered a baccalaureate address to the University of Georgia senior class. McEvoy party reports safe arrival in Europe tour

A cablegram from Naples received by the Banner confirms the McEvoy party arrived Athens two weeks ago and is traveling with Bartlett Tours Company of Philadelphia. They plan a broad European itinerary including Oberammergau and other mid Europe stops. The Athens party includes Mrs E. C. McEvoy and several Misses Patman Hunnicutt Lyndon Comer and A Lama Steele. Commercial Congress to Meet in Atlanta in November

The Southern Commercial Congress with headquarters in Washington plans a November meeting in Atlanta. Atlanta Chamber of Commerce invites the event and Edwin L Quarlen, secretary, is negotiating with city officials. Married in Athens man arrested in Worth forgery case

Schmaltz of 122 Norfolk Street, tied to a Georgia marriage, was arrested by Athens police on forgery charges after a trap set by a local woman who aided in his capture. He admitted a prior marriage in Athens to Millie Bell and said he deserted her for New Jersey before joining the army. He was later jailed for stealing arms and sentenced to nine months in the penitentiary.

Georgian Prizes Awarded Yesterday at the University

Three silver loving cups were awarded for the best poem best short story and best essay in the University monthly Georgian. Joseph E B Varela of Atlanta won for the poem with a sonnet in the June issue and McClellan Walger of Memphis won the best essay and the short story.
