Mother Heroism Denied Carnegie Medal Despite Rescue
Mrs Norman Girling of White Plains pulled her infant from a 15 foot well after hearing a cry in the yard. She climbed the wet well walls with the baby in her arms and delivered another child that night. The Carnegie Hero Commission refused her a medal, but locals praise her courage and note she has two healthy children.
