Georgia Eyes Tick Eradication Plan To Save Cattle Industry

Atlanta from July 24 official estimates place annual U S loss due to cattle tick at 52 million dollars nationwide Georgia bears about one million. Assistant Agriculture Commissioner R F Wright told the Appropriations Committee a 5000 yearly appropriation could fund tick control across counties by enforcing the fence law and greasing cattle with crude cotton oil. Wright says eradication would boost Georgia’s growing cattle and dairy sectors and that the bill will likely pass. Athens features a double barrel cannon a tree that owns itself and a red whiskered policeman, provoking local chatter.
