Sad Death of Mrs. W. A. Capps in Athens
Mrs. W A Capps of this city died suddenly after ten fifteen last night. The community feels shock and grief as her passing removes a gifted musician and devoted wife and mother. She was organist at the First Baptist and First Methodist churches and had lived in Athens for several years, beloved by many. She leaves a husband, two children, and a grieving mother. A baby born just a day earlier had preceded her in death. Funeral arrangements were not announced.

State Normal School bills advance in Georgia legislature

Murder at Winterville ends in axe death and arson
In Winterville six miles from Athens, Charlie Goss also known as Albert Goss was killed in his bed. Scott, a 35 year old Black man, was arrested nearby and charged with the crime. The wife of Scott faces an alleged accessory charge. Coroner Weatherly led an inquest finding death by violent means.

Federal Income Tax Leads In Interest In Atlanta
Atlanta July 7 The house and senate spent most of their sessions in a discussion of the Federal Income tax. It is not believed the measure will receive the two thirds vote needed for passage.Speeches for and against the measure were made by senators and house members. Opponents say it surrenders power to the federal government and centralizes control. supporters say it targets wealthy northern centers escaping taxes under tariff laws. A new senate bill would not hold a husband responsible for a wife s torts. The house did not adjourn for a long session. A motion by Mr Anderson of Chatham was lost. Mr Alexander of Fulton said he may ask reconsideration of the barber bill on sanitation in barber shops. The morning was occupied with setting times for special orders and for appropriation bills to be taken up July 24. A resolution to memorialize the Tennessee General Assembly to authorize a special judge for Polk County to hear Ducktown damage suits filed by Georgia citizens was tabled.
