A citizens rally backs Capt. W W Thomas to lead a plan for a first class hotel in Athens. With the Georgia Carolina and Northern Railroad advancing, a Tuesday night meeting will form a funding plan and push for timely construction before the railroad reaches town.
Judge Wm. M. Reese of the Georgia Railroad met Athens directors to plan a Covington and Macon link for through freight. Proposals include routing along the Oconee to Hodgson property or via Lick Skillet near the Northeastern depot. A united line atop the G and M grade could create a first class union depot for all passenger trains.
