Interesting Letter From Belgium Shapes Foreign Cotton Trade
Atlanta January 23 special report notes Inter-State Cotton Seed Crushers' Association leader L A Ransom receiving a letter from Albert G Perkins in Waxelbaum Belgium. Perkins, a Memphis native, seeks port and freight rate data for cotton seed meal hulls and oil shipped abroad. He aims to develop a cotton seed oil trade as a nutritious, palatable, cheaper alternative. Georgia mills in multiple cities will compete, with Gulf and Atlantic port brokers supplying data to form the new export field. The US government backs the product, and a representative was sent to Turkey to promote cotton seed oil as a cooking substitute where hog lard is banned. Also promotes Chamberlain's Cough Remedy for children and Foley's Honey and Tar for coughs.
