Newport News Virginia February 26 The inspection of the battleship Indiana is completed with naval inspectors returning to Washington Captain George Dewey president of the inspectors says the inspection was entirely satisfactory no defect was found and the gun test went smoothly. The ship handled magnificently and officers and marines showed efficiency. San Francisco February 26 The district attorney orders a suit against Central Pacific Railroad to recover 9 386 acres valued at about 17 million government claim rests on erroneous patent to Oregon and California Railway predecessor. Memphis February 26 Florence Wright niece of Frederick Cossett sues Southern Express for damages after a parrot misdelivery leads to a struggle and injuries. Utah Trinity Creek Canyon gold discovered within city limits with claims of 500 and 40 in silver.

The robbers were long-time local cowmen. The wounded bookkeeper is expected to recover.
