Judge Richard B Russell of the Western circuit will run for Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. He faces incumbent Thomas J Simmons in a high profile race with wide support. If Russell wins the Western circuit vacancy will occur and an election for the unexpired term would follow.
Dr Henry Van Dyke won strong applause last night at Seney Stovall chapel as a large audience heard a magnificent lecture on Tennyson. He is regarded as one of the most polished scholars and gifted lecturers in the country.
The Payton Sisters Company opened a week at the Kentucky Theatre with Swan's A Man of Mystery a lively four act comedy drama. Strong talents well developed and the company delivers first class comedy and specialties between acts with superb costuming and magnificent gowns proving a top local attraction at popular prices.
The Banner announces Casrithers candidacy for the senate in the 27th district controlled by Walton Oconee and Athens. James Y Osrithers backs Carithers while A H Hodgson for health reasons declines the race. Carithers is a longtime Ath ens citizen with cotton business and leadership of the Athens Electric Railway. The Democratic primary date is expected in mid May after the Atlanta committee meeting next Monday.
William Henry Morton of Pur year district announces for state senate challenging J Y Caribera. Morton, a longtime Clarke County farmer and educator advocate, has supported road improvements and a county bond issue for macadam roads. He plans to begin a countywide canvas promptly.
The two week course in agriculture for farmers unable to spare longer time has ended. University officials regret few attended but deem lectures highly valuable and plan to repeat next year hoping for hundreds of farmers. Attendees say they benefited and will urge peers to join in the future.
Captain Jeptha H. Rocker of Athens announces his candidacy for the Georgia House of Representatives from Clarke County, subject to the Democratic primary. A former two term mayor and long time alderman, he leads the Athena Compress Co. and heads the city finance committee as he launches an active campaign with no opposition yet stated.
Sunday morning about ten miles from Atlanta a small trestle on the Seaboard Air Line main line was discovered burning at 10 28. The blaze caused little damage and was extinguished quickly. crews rebuilt the bent in about two hours and resumed normal traffic.

The vote on changing the Episcopal Church name shows a liberal trend with bishops and clergy split, laity in favor of or against immediate change. The Living Church notes 22 bishops and 940 clergy favored immediate change, 21 bishops and 884 clergy opposed, and 12 bishops plus 59 clergy favored a potential future change with 92,412 laity undecided.
Two young boys from near Mr. G P Brightwell’s farm in Ext Athens played with a pistol Monday night. Tyler Hill, the younger, aimed at Fletcher Hill and fired, killing him with a .32 ball to the head. The tragedy underscores dangers of unloaded pistols. Hood's Sarsaparilla is advertised as a cure for scrofula and other conditions.
The eighty fourth anniversary of Phi Phi Kappa literary society was celebrated at the University of Georgia chapel. Eu gene T. Talmadge of Forsyth delivered a pointed address on The Eternal Question focusing on race organization and separation, referencing Thomas Dixon and unpublished chapters from Leopards Spots. The speaker urged separation of races, asserting it as the best long term solution. The event drew students Lucy Cobb girls and local citizens with A G Golo ck e of Crawfordville as master of ceremonies.
