Weaver Bridges a boy and son of James Bridges suffered a painful fishing accident when a hook lodged in his hand after another boy stepped on his line. After hours of pain and failed removal attempts, he went to a physician who cut out the hook to relieve him.
Clarke county city court will convene next Monday morning with Judge West presiding. A long civil docket and several criminal cases await, and Clerk B. J. Crawford has prepared a full list for calendar arrangement. A bar meeting was planned but postponed as attorneys are away on business.
Special agent W H Ramsey from Washington has spent two days in secret sessions with Col F C Tate examining Tate’s district attorney records. Ramsey’s presence and nature of inquiries remain shrouded, with local interest mounting over the ongoing private examination and its implications for the federal office.
Involuntary bankruptcy proceedings are filed against Bostwick Manufacturing Company of Bostwick Georgia by creditors B H Malcolm & Bro Van Winkle Machine Company and Adams-Millis Co North Carolina. The petition cites assets around 70000 dollars and liabilities near 100000 with referee Judge F L Upson heard the case yesterday in this city.
The state tuberculosis sanitarium will cost about 100000 dollars and be built near Mt. Airy on the Southern railway. Plans by Solomon & Co of Atlanta were approved by the sanitarium trustees who met in Atlanta at the capitol. The board also elected officers for the ensuing year, with T. R. Whitley as chairman and Jefferson Davis among the officers and executive committee members.
Clarke county authorities arrested Kate O Dwyer after she violated a court promise to leave the county and not return. The Iowa supreme court ruled the prior suspension was unauthorized and the sentence was not served, upholding the habeas corpus denial. The report also notes Crane’s recall from a Chinese mission and a bee men meeting in Atlanta.
Clarence Meeks a young white man from Atlanta was arrested on the Seaboard train in Athens by local police at the request of Elberton authorities. He is wanted for larceny in Elberton for stealing a purse and money from a party. he was tracked toward Atlanta but captured in Athens and sent back to face Essex county courts.
Louisville February 16 Henry Watterson veteran Courier Journal editor celebrated his seventieth birthday amid congratulations. Though aging and eyesight limit work his interest in public affairs remains strong. Born February 16 1840 in Washington he served in the Confederate army and later helped found a Louisville newspaper empire with W D Haldeman. He shaped Democratic platforms from 1872 to 1892 and remains a noted political figure.
Cleveland will vote tomorrow on the Taylor ordinance to settle the long running fare tradition dispute. The measure would determine the future of the requested three cent fare plan long championed by Mayor Tom L. Johnson. fares have been in effect pending the referendum.
The Minnesota Historial Association opens its 44th annual meeting at the Radisson Hotel in Minneapolis with a eulogy to former Governor John A. Johnson by Judge C. W. Stanton of Bemidji. Mayor Haynes will welcome editors and Albert Lea's F. S. Edwards will respond as association president. Election of officers closes the session.
GHEEPMEN MEET a WHEELING, Wheeling, W. Va, Feb. 16 The Tri State Wool Growers and Sheep Breeders Association began its tenth annual convention in Wheeling with attendees from Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Dr B H Rawson of the bureau of animal industry and Horace Atwood of Morgantown State Experimental Station are slated to speak over the two day event.
Georgia won 57 to 45 in a basketball clash with the Atlanta Athletic Association. Peacock scored 15 and Forbes 12 as Doonan and Huddon contributed strong defense and sharp passes. The Georgia five, led by captains Peacock and Hodson, impressed with trained play and balanced scoring.
Eleven applicants passed the government census enumeration test for Clarke county and Athens city. Six were colored and five were white with no women among the finalists. Nineteen positions remain and another exam or importation of nearby qualified workers may be arranged. Census day is April 15 and future Banner updates will outline questions on nativity and other data to be collected.

J W Caskey, contractor, lifted about three hundred pounds with his left hand, then a heavy crate rolled onto his right hand crushing it and driving a three inch nail toward the bone. He pulled the nail free and received immediate surgical care with expectations of recovery though temporarily disabled.
In a February 16 ceremony Whitman College commemorates its centennial birth of founder Cushing Bells. A large NW gathering heard speakers praise past work and bright future while noting Bells born in 1824 and his Oregon mission, the college’s 600 students, and high tuition amid a 30 acre campus.
Prof Harris leads free cooking extension classes for women at Athens colored industrial and high schools. Held Tuesdays and Thursdays 3 to 6 pm, twenty six attendees yesterday, ten the previous week, with plans to grow to fifty. White residents cooperate, attendance expected from several white ladies, and contributions sought to cover expenses and broaden impact on both communities.
The Elberton Washington Railroad appears probable with private financing possible after the 1907 panic. W C Jones notes private parties will fund and operate the line, which would pass through fertile Elbert and Wilkes counties, boost real estate values, unlock hardwood timber, and connect a potential power plant at Anthony Shoals Star.
