Poem celebrates the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia the symbol of freedom. It lauds its iron tongue proclaiming liberty from east to west and inspires dreams of liberty across the globe. The verse speaks of timeless echoes and the bell’s message of freedom for all humanity.
Genie Alford endures a years long crush on William Ritchie. Cora Standish arrives and ensnares him with flirtation and gifts, triggering Genie to expose the affair. William declares Cora’s betrayal, and Genie excuses her own role, then agrees to marry him after a painful reckoning and reconciliation.
Arthur Severn, a poor college student, discovers a hidden mahogany box in the Holloway House wall containing gold coins rings and papers proving a large fortune. He faces temptation to steal but returns the box to Mr Holloway, who then offers time on the loan and a better room. Severn graduates and later marries Mary with Holloway’s aid.
In a New York Times style vignette a pastor Rev Milo Milner returns to Simpson terrace to find his hosts Mrs Chipley Maud and Marian have painted the door green while Joe Dean paints theirs blue. Milner confesses a comical blunder and later marries Widow Chipley.
Athens observes the tenth anniversary of Michael Bros a dry goods firm founded by Simon and M G Michael in 1882. The store has grown from a small space to a three story building with wholesale and retail operations employing thirty four staff. Simon oversees retail while M G leads wholesale sales aided by H E Choate.
The body of Dr C D Campbell was brought in on the North eastern train and met by friends at the depot. It was carried to the residence of Mr A J Cobb on Milledge Avenue. The funeral will be held at the First Baptist Church this morning conducted by Rev HB Bers. Bearers include R K Reavy G H Hulme W S Jackson and E John.
