A Chicago Chronicle summary notes Cosme in Paraguay, founded in 1894 by Australian immigrants with equality of goods and communal living. Homes are small wood structures with overhanging thatch, gardens, and sugar cane plots. The village plans a large square, with public spaces between houses. Personal household items stay with users. only durable property is communal. Prospective members endure a one year probation and contribute $25 per adult and half per child. if they leave, transport costs to Buenos Aires are covered after three months. Colored persons are reportedly not admitted.

An American, Martin Holts, built a parrot ranch near Victoria Mexico becoming possibly the only parrot ranch in Mexico and one of the few globally. A former railroad conductor he trains several thousand parrots in English Spanish German and French.
