A romance and war tale unfolds from a Georgia town on the eve of Memorial Day. Confederate Lt. Roger Holmes departs for war, cherishing letters from Charlotte King as Union scouts clash and misfortune strikes. After capture and a frame by Capt Rankin, Holmes survives, is imprisoned, then freed by Gen. Blank. He and Charlotte reunite, Rankin is punished, and Holmes marries Charlotte with a new life alongside old allies, including Gen. Blank, in a postwar reunion and memorial setting.
Capt Brumby announces a new tannery in Athens expected to employ more than one hundred men. When operating at full force it will disburse large sums in the city and spread Athens name as its output expands. The industry promises local economic benefits and growth for Athens.
Dr Edwin D Newton president of the Farmers Club Clarke seeks reduced rates for the party to the Atlanta World’s Fair meeting on May 6. He has a letter from L L McClesky passenger agent of Richmond and Danville railroads offering the very lowest rates. Deputies named by the Governor and by Newton urged to send names to Tos Banner at once to secure the discounts. Also notes the Banner job office nearing a new catalogue for the University and a Lexington outing from Athens and Oglethorpe county with a rock picnic. Reports recent harness thefts: four sets stolen from wagons.
